Curious Minds
Stephon Alexander has strong personal experiences confronting the unknown. At age eight his family moved from Trinidad to the Bronx in New York City. “My childhood was full of surprises,” he remembers. “I learned that you can't always hold on to things; it taught me the idea of embracing the unknown.” He was so curious with the idea that he went on to study theoretical physics at large. Alexander primarily focuses on understanding the nature of dark energy in the universe, the origin of matter (baryogenesis) in the universe, the origin of large scale structure in the universe, space-time singularities and how to test a theory of quantum gravity with observations in cosmology.

Physicist and musician, Stephon Alexander has straddled the worlds of theoretical physics and jazz music over the last two decades. He works on the connection between the smallest and largest entities in the universe pushing Einstein’s theory of curved space-time theory to extremes. Alexander is a Professor of Physics at Brown University, with previous appointments at Stanford University, Imperial College, Penn State, Dartmouth College and Haverford College. Alexander is a specialist in the field of string cosmology and co-invented the model of inflation based on higher dimensional hypersurfaces in string theory called D-Branes.
