Before founding charity: water, Harrison spent a decade as a nightclub promoter in New York City. Seeking a more meaningful path, he volunteered with Mercy Ships in Liberia, where he witnessed the profound impact of contaminated water on communities. This experience inspired him to address the global water crisis.

Under Harrison's leadership, charity: water introduced the 100% Model, ensuring that all public donations directly fund water projects, with operational costs covered by private donors. The organization also emphasizes transparency by providing donors with photos and GPS coordinates of the projects they support.

Harrison's innovative approach to philanthropy has garnered recognition, including features in Fortune's "40 Under 40" and Forbes' "Impact 30" lists. In 2018, he authored the New York Times bestseller Thirst: A Story of Redemption, Compassion, and a Mission to Bring Clean Water to the World, detailing his personal journey and the mission of charity: water.
