Matt also dives into the world of biomaterials, where cutting-edge alternatives to steel and cement are paving the way for a more sustainable future. Reimagining Thriving Food

Our global food system is built on industrialized monoculture, where vast stretches of land grow a single crop using chemical-intensive methods. This approach has taken a toll on ecosystems, human health, and the climate, but a new food revolution is emerging—one that works with nature instead of against it. In this episode, Matt Shea explores the innovators redesigning the way we produce and consume food. Some are creating entirely new foods from waste products, turning what was once discarded into nutritious and sustainable ingredients. Others are pioneering regenerative farming techniques, ensuring that food production restores the environment rather than depleting it. And as more people embrace diverse, locally-sourced diets, they’re not only improving their health but also strengthening the connection between consumers and the origins of their food. Join us on a journey to discover how we can eat in a way that nourishes both people and the planet, transforming food from a source of destruction into a force for regeneration.

Matt Shea

Matt Shea is a British documentary filmmaker, journalist, and presenter renowned for his in-depth explorations of crime and fringe cultures. He began his career writing for VICE Magazine, where he transitioned into producing and directing documentaries that delve into unconventional and often controversial subjects.

Shea is the creator of the long-running series "High Society," which examines drug culture in the UK, providing audiences with unfiltered access to the realities of substance use and its societal implications. His commitment to immersive journalism is evident in his work on the Emmy-nominated series "Gaycation," featuring actor Elliot Page, and the critically acclaimed documentary "Chemsex," which investigates the intersection of drug use and sexual activity within certain communities.

One of Shea's most notable projects is the feature-length documentary "Time To Die," filmed over four years. In addition to his work on drug culture and end-of-life issues, Shea has ventured into the realms of organized crime and extremist groups. His investigative prowess continued with the VICE special report "The Dangerous Rise of Andrew Tate," released in January 2023, which examines the controversial figure's influence and activities.

Shea's storytelling extends to exploring human endurance and alternative lifestyles. His documentary "Iceman" delves into the world of Wim Hof, a Dutch extreme athlete known for his ability to withstand freezing temperatures, sparking global interest in Hof's methods. Shea's dedication to uncovering unique narratives has solidified his reputation as a journalist unafraid to venture into uncharted territories.
