Vardi was one of the first entrepreneurs to recognize the potential of the internet in Israel. In 1994, he founded the first Israeli internet company, Mirabilis, which created the popular instant messaging platform ICQ. The success of ICQ was a significant milestone in Israel’s high-tech boom, leading to its acquisition by AOL in 1998 for $407 million, which provided a global stage for Israel’s tech industry.
