Nourishing the World Through Food Security
Unleashing Potential: Food Security
This season is filled with giving, giving back, and giving to loved ones. It is a time to reflect on generosity, connection, and the simple acts that remind us to share love with those close to us and with strangers alike. Nowhere is that spirit more evident than in CORE’s Unleashing Potential, a powerful exploration of how access to food remains both a basic human right and a shared human responsibility.
When the COVID-19 pandemic upended global food systems, it revealed how fragile access to nourishment can be. In that time of crisis, organizations such as the Urban School Food Alliance, GENYOUth, and Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, mobilized at an unprecedented scale to deliver millions of meals to students and families who suddenly found themselves without reliable access to food. Their work showed the true meaning of generosity: collaboration, compassion, and action.
From Crisis Response to Lasting Change
While the pandemic may be behind us, the fight for food security continues. Hunger remains a daily reality for millions, intensified by the effects of climate change, conflict, and economic inequality. Our featured partners and featured changemakers from Food Security have evolved their missions from emergency relief to long-term solutions that focus on regenerative agriculture, school nutrition innovation, community resilience, and sustainable supply chains.
World Central Kitchen now operates in disaster-stricken regions around the globe, providing not only meals but also infrastructure and training that empower local communities to feed themselves.
GENYOUth continues to expand access to healthy meals and physical activity for students across the U.S., addressing both food and wellness inequities.
The Urban School Food Alliance leads efforts to source nutritious, locally grown food for millions of students, ensuring that every child, regardless of income, has access to fresh meals at school.
Their continued work exemplifies how generosity can evolve from responding to crisis to reimagining systems that prioritize dignity, equity, and sustainability.
Building a More Nourished Future
Today, food security means more than fighting hunger. It means empowering local farmers, reducing food waste, rebuilding ecosystems, and educating the next generation on sustainable living. Each action, from volunteering at a food pantry to supporting climate-smart agriculture, contributes to a ripple effect that strengthens communities around the world.
CORE remains committed to amplifying these stories through the Unleashing Potential series, highlighting the innovators, farmers, educators, and organizations building a more equitable global food system.
As we move through this season of giving, let us remember: To give is to sustain. To nourish not just the body, but the mind and the spirit.
Together, we can ensure that generosity continues to grow, one meal, one seed, and one act of compassion at a time.
