Unleashing Potential

Countries continue to struggle with the pain of a pandemic, which has triggered severe health and socio-economic consequences and triggered one of the most dangerous challenges the world has faced in our lifetimes. But our common struggles are also uniting the world in ways we’ve never seen before, and the support of foundations across the globe are keeping the hope for both a cure and brighter future alive.

The Rockefeller Foundation is making a huge difference for the path to recovery. Since its start over a century ago, the Foundation has given more than $17 billion to organizations with missions for unleashing human potential and amplifying innovations that show resilience to world issues. Today, with the support of the Foundation, organizations are able to make a bigger impact in their Covid-19 relief efforts.

Testing: Providing adequate testing sites to communities has been an ongoing challenge. In the U.S., testing sites have been limited, test availability has reduced by nearly half, and return times on test results have increased dramatically while cases fluctuate and the demand is high. The Rockefeller Foundation stepped in to alleviate some of this pressure on the country with funding to Sean Penn’s foundation, CORE and also through their newly enacted National Covid-19 Testing & Tracing Action Plan which will invest an additional $50 million toward realizing emergency efforts.

Surveillance: While we search for a vaccine, CORDS works diligently to connect organizations for regional disease responses. From Asia to Africa, to the Middle East and European nations, CORDS works directly with health organizations to build awareness for prevention by ensuring the correct messages are reaching the public. A recent collaboration with the Southeast European Center for Surveillance and Control of Infectious Diseases involved a series of webinars and organized WhatsApp groups to share day-to-day Covid-19 updates and any unusual cross- border cases. Efforts like these may seem small, but will make a large impact in decreasing the spread.

Hunger: Louisiana was hit with Hurricane Laura, a Category 4 storm with winds up to 155 mph, demolishing homes and communities that were already struggling to stay afloat amidst the global pandemic. Today, homes are still without power and water, and families have no access to food. Chef José Andres and his team at the World Central Kitchen have been vigilantes in this time of need, safely distributing fresh, individually packaged meals. From kitchens around the country, WCK chefs have provided over 25 million meals in more than 400 cities.

Financial Relief: The pandemic has precipitated economic pain and financial uncertainty unprecedented for its wide reach. Benefits Data Trust has been proactively connecting individuals and businesses to personalized financial benefits and services. The surge in need during the pandemic has required BDT’s assistance and resources at epic proportions; call volumes have increased by 145% and remote work made the process challenging. Benefits Data Trust could not have operated without funding from organizations from The Rockefeller Foundation which supported more efficient operations to help a greater number of people get back on their feet.
