ReDress the Future

Waterbear Original

ReDress the Future is a new series that explores the ideas and innovators subverting the status quo which underlies an unsustainable fashion industry. Whether it’s calling out the very notion of being “on trend”, which drives relentless consumerism, or it’s focusing in on the pioneers that are bucking the trend against outdated and unsustainable business models and manufacturing processes, this series seeks to challenge the fashion industry as we know it and give viewers a glimpse at a more circular fashion future which they never even knew was possible. Because the future of fashion isn’t about following the herd, it’s about doing things differently, it’s about ReDressing the Future!

ReDressing New

ReDressing New

Focusing on the first pillar of circular and sustainable fashion; buying fewer new clothes. Since all new clothing, no matter how well it is made, will always have some sort of impact on the planet, simply buying less is the most responsible action an individual can take. We all know, however, that even the most well made clothes don’t last forever, as well as the fact that not only do our tastes change but so do our bodies, so sometimes what we have in our wardrobes just doesn’t quite cut it. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean we need to resort to buying brand new clothes. This episode will explore not only the burgeoning second hand clothing industry, in particular new apps that allow people to buy and sell used clothing from their own home, but the more traditional concept of repairing or altering our own well-loved items of clothing. Because when it comes to sustainable fashion, forget buying something new, let’s just make the most of what we already have!

ReDressing Waste

ReDressing Waste

Take inspiration from the forward-thinking fashionistas who are using waste products to make some of fashion’s most sought after pieces. In a circular, sustainable world, there is no such thing as waste - anything can be either recycled or upcycled, and with fashion currently being responsible for vast amounts of waste, it’s clear something needs to change. This episode meets the designers and creators who are creating garms out of garbage, having realised that what a lot of people think of as useless, is actually a valuable resource for creating new, beautifully designed clothing. Because when it comes to creating a sustainable future for fashion, forget waste, let’s use what was once useless.

ReDressing The Model

ReDressing The Model

Looking to the future of responsible, circular fashion and investigate the latest technology in recycled textiles. While mentioning some of the issues associated with using fabrics made from recycled plastics, this episode will look at ways of making clothing truly circular by seeing how an item of clothing made from an organic material, like cotton, can be broken down to it’s very fibres and then made into a brand new item of clothing again, not only eliminating waste, but eliminating a reliance on harvesting new raw materials. Because when it comes to imagining a new future for fashion, forget tradition, let’s rethink the very fibres fashion is built on.
