Set in the Muga Valley of Catalonia, Spain, the film follows an ambitious effort to regenerate more than 100,000 hectares across 68 communities through a holistic approach that combines ecological restoration, community engagement, water stewardship, biodiversity recovery, and long term economic resilience.
Narrated through the voice of the river itself, MUGA tells the story of a landscape under pressure from drought and environmental decline, and the people working together to reverse that trend. The film explores how healthier forests, restored watersheds, thriving wildlife, and stronger communities are deeply interconnected.
The documentary highlights the work of the nonprofit initiative Pioneers of Our Time, which is developing a model that could inspire regenerative projects far beyond the borders of Spain. Their vision is simple yet profound: create a society where nature and people flourish together.
