Sebastian Copeland’s Across the Ice
The Explorers Club Screening in Davos
We’re thrilled to announce a special screening of Across the Ice: The Greenland Victory March, a documentary following Sebastian Copeland and Eric McNair-Landry’ s daring expedition across Greenland, to be featured during the Explorers Club weekend at the Wisdom Film Festival in Davos, Switzerland.
This same weekend, Copeland will be honored with the prestigious Photographer of the Year 2024 award for his contributions to visual storytelling, with a ceremony held in Athens, Greece. This dual recognition underscores the impact of Copeland’s work in both exploration and conservation.
Sebastian Copeland, a British-French-American, is a world-renowned polar explorer, climate researcher, environmentalist, photographer, and author. With a career that has seen him lead 27 polar missions, Copeland’s commitment to environmental protection and his relentless pursuit of a sustainable future have shaped his life's work. He was awarded the National Order of Merit by French President Emmanuel Macron in 2019, has published several influential works that underscore the critical importance of environmental conservation, his activism has earned him a seat on the Board of Directors for the U.S. Branch of Mikhail Gorbachev's Green Cross International and for Shine On Sierra Leone, and he has been widely celebrated and featured in National Geographic, Vanity Fair, GQ, Marie Claire, Elle, Outside, American Photo, The New York Times, People Magazine, USA Today, and Paris Match, as well as on NBC, CBS, NPR, and CNN’s Larry King Live.
Across the Ice chronicles an unprecedented journey across Greenland’s ice sheet, where Copeland, alongside fellow adventurer and seasoned polar guide Eric McNair-Landry, completed a 2,300-kilometer expedition from south to north, setting a Guinness World Record by covering 595 kilometers in just 24 hours. This feat demanded resilience, as the duo faced brutal storms, freezing temperatures, and sleepless nights, testing their endurance in one of the planet’s most unforgiving environments.
Eric McNair-Landry, a highly skilled explorer, brings his own deep experience in polar travel. Raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut, as the son of renowned polar guides Matty McNair and Paul Landry, Eric grew up surrounded by the Arctic and has become an accomplished adventurer in his own right. He has led multiple kite-skiing expeditions across Greenland and the Northwest Passage and has set numerous records in the polar regions, making him a perfect partner for this formidable journey.
